My Life Through Art
I am Jack Farkas, and my journey in the world of art began in Bridgeport, Connecticut. From a young age, I felt a deep connection to creativity, a passion nurtured by my Godparents who introduced me to the magic of museums and books. These early experiences shaped my imagination and set me on a lifelong path devoted to art.
My academic journey led me to earn a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, an MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and further graduate studies at Bradley University. I also pursued advanced studies at NYU in Art History, Art Restoration, Art Identification, and Art Law. These experiences deepened my understanding of art’s historical and cultural significance. One of the highlights of my career was working on the recovery of Holocaust art looted during World War II—a cause close to my heart.
Over the years, I’ve honed my skills across diverse artistic disciplines, from painting and printmaking to pottery and calligraphy. These explorations have allowed me to convey the depth of human experience through my work. My career has also been enriched by my roles as an educator, sharing my passion for art with students at Gibbs College, Albertus Magnus College, and Housatonic Community College.
Artist Statement
For me, art is more than a practice—it’s the essence of life itself. My creative process is dynamic, allowing the medium to guide me as I work. Whether it’s pastel, paint, or any other material, I aim to craft pieces that resonate with emotions, symbols, and cosmic energies. Each artwork is a dialogue between color, shape, and symbolism, pushing boundaries to convey messages that connect deeply with the viewer.
My inspiration comes from life in all its forms—the universal spirit, the symbols that define us, and the emotions that move us. I believe that art is a binding force, an avenue for exploring the beauty and complexity of existence.

My Journey and Achievements
I’ve been fortunate to wear many hats throughout my career. As the Dean of Gibbs College, the owner of Estate Fine Art and Associates, and the President of the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra, I’ve worked to blend my passion for art with leadership and community service.
My contributions have extended to curating exhibitions for renowned artists like Willem de Kooning, which earned acclaim, including praise from The New York Times as the “Coup of the Century.” Sharing my vision through lectures at esteemed institutions like The Met, the National Gallery of Art, the Louvre, and the Uffizi has been a privilege that has shaped my understanding of how art connects with people across the globe.
Living Artfully
When I’m not creating or teaching, I find joy in the simplicity of life. I own a small farm where I grow my own food, make wine, and even craft cigars from homegrown tobacco. These traditions ground me and remind me of the art in everyday life.
As a devoted Freemason, I hold numerous honors and positions, reflecting my commitment to integrity, philanthropy, and leadership. I believe in serving my community and sharing the values that define me, both through my art and my actions.
I celebrate over 60 years of artistic excellence at Estate Fine Art. My fine art gallery in Seymour, Connecticut, is a treasure trove of history and imagination. With thousands of vintage art pieces for sale, my mission is to bring the rich tapestry of the past to the forefront while nurturing the timeless beauty of fine art.
